Welcome to Sovereign Dental
& Myofunctional Centre
We are a holistic clinic in the heart of Ballarat dedicated to whole-body dental health — from newborns through to adulthood. Our team combines myofunctional therapy, orthodontics, and a deep understanding of how breathing, posture, and oral function shape lifelong wellbeing.
Narrow jaws and crooked teeth are often signs of underlying functional issues rather than simply cosmetic concerns. Problems such as mouth breathing, poor tongue posture, tongue ties, and abnormal swallowing patterns can affect jaw development during childhood, leading to crowding, bite problems, and restricted airway space.
Snoring often indicates upper airway or nasal narrowing and can escalate to sleep apnea — where breathing pauses repeatedly overnight. Left untreated, it impacts cardiovascular health, cognition, and quality of life.
Mouth breathing is more than just a habit—it is often a sign of an underlying airway or functional problem. When breathing occurs primarily through the mouth instead of the nose, it can affect facial growth, jaw development, sleep quality, oral health, and overall wellbeing in both children and adults.
The temporomandibular joints (TMJ) connect your jaw to your skull and play a vital role in speaking, chewing, swallowing, and everyday jaw movement. When these joints or the surrounding muscles become dysfunctional, they can lead to Temporomandibular Joint Disorders (TMD), causing pain, restricted movement, and reduced quality of life.
Breastfeeding is one of the most important foundations for a baby's growth and development, but it isn't always easy. Difficulties with latching, feeding, or milk transfer can often be linked to underlying conditions such as tongue tie, lip tie, or oral muscle dysfunction, affecting both the baby and the mother's breastfeeding experience.
Tongue and lip ties restrict mobility of the tongue and lip frenulums, affecting feeding, speech, jaw development, and airway. We assess the functional impact thoroughly before recommending treatment.
Every concern has a cause. We find it.
Most dental problems have a functional root — in how you breathe, swallow, or hold your tongue. Our services are designed to address that root, at every age, so treatment actually holds. Our approach is built on the understanding that the mouth, airway, and whole body are deeply connected. We don’t treat teeth in isolation — we assess posture, breathing patterns, muscle function, and development together to build a picture that actually makes sense of your symptoms.
Whether you’re seeking early intervention for your child, managing a long-standing concern, or simply looking for a practice that takes the time to listen — we’re here to help at every step, from your first appointment through to lasting results. We work alongside GPs, speech pathologists, ENT practitioners, and paediatric practitioners to make sure your care is joined up. When you come to us, you gain a team — one that stays with you through every stage of treatment and beyond.
