Root Canal Therapy

Save your natural tooth and eliminate pain with modern root canal treatment.

About this service

Root Canal Therapy, also known as Endodontic Treatment, is a highly effective procedure used to save teeth that have become infected, inflamed, or severely damaged. Rather than removing the tooth, root canal treatment eliminates infection from within the tooth while preserving its natural structure and restoring its strength and function.

Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected due to deep decay, trauma, or repeated dental treatment, it can cause significant pain and infection. Root canal therapy removes the damaged tissue, thoroughly disinfects the inside of the tooth, and seals it to prevent future infection.

Following treatment, the tooth is restored with a permanent filling or, in most cases, a custom-made dental crown to strengthen and protect it. Preserving your natural tooth helps maintain normal chewing function, supports neighbouring teeth, and provides a healthier long-term solution than extraction whenever possible.

Why root canal treatment is needed

Root canal treatment becomes necessary when the soft pulp inside a tooth becomes infected or irreversibly inflamed. This may occur as a result of deep decay, large fillings, cracks, trauma, or repeated dental procedures. If left untreated, the infection can spread beyond the tooth, causing severe pain, swelling, abscess formation, and ultimately tooth loss.

Modern endodontic treatment allows us to preserve teeth that would previously have required extraction. Saving your natural tooth helps maintain normal chewing function, prevents neighbouring teeth from shifting, and supports the long-term health of your smile.

What happens during treatment

Treatment begins by carefully accessing the inside of the tooth under local anaesthetic to ensure you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. The infected or damaged pulp is removed, and the root canals are meticulously cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prepare the tooth for sealing.

Once the canals are completely disinfected, they are filled with a biocompatible material called gutta-percha, which seals the tooth and prevents future infection. In most cases, a custom-made dental crown is then placed to restore strength, protect the tooth, and return it to full function.

Comfortable treatment with lasting results

Many people associate root canal treatment with pain, but modern techniques have made the procedure far more comfortable than its reputation suggests. Local anaesthesia effectively numbs the tooth, and most patients report that treatment feels similar to receiving a routine filling.

Following treatment, mild tenderness may be experienced for a few days as the surrounding tissues heal. With proper restoration, good oral hygiene, and regular dental check-ups, a root canal treated tooth can continue functioning normally for many years, allowing you to keep your natural smile.
